Before hospitalisation

Preliminary examinations

As soon as you have set a date with your surgeon for placing a hip replacement, your doctor will be informed. It is necessary that you contact your doctor to have the necessary preliminary examinations carried out. You will receive a detailed application form that you hand over to your doctor. Sometimes it is also necessary to see a medical specialist before the surgery, depending on previous disorders. This will be explained to you in detail on the consultation. It is very important that you bring all results with your hospitalisation.

Specific radiographic recordings of the joint to be operated

Perfect planning of the surgery is a prerequisite for a perfect placement of the different prosthetic components. We will therefore ask you to have the necessary radiographic recordings done and to deliver it to us so we can plan everything to the smallest detail before the operation.

Detecting infections for the procedure

It is very important that no active infection is present at the time that you undergo surgery. This could lead to contamination of the prosthesis. Therefore, if necessary, have your teeth checked by your dentist. A bladder infection or skin infection must also be healed before a prosthesis can be placed.

Stop medication before the procedure

At least one week before the operation, the intake of all blood-thinning medicines (such as Marevan, Sintrom, Marcoumar, Ticlid, Asaflow, Cardioaspirine, Cardegic, Plavix, ...) should be stopped. Also ask your doctor or cardiac specialist for advice.

Also anti-inflammatory drugs (such as Apranax, Voltaren, Feldene, Mobic, Mesulid, Brexine, Brufen, Ibuprofen, Diclofenac, Arcoxia, Celebrex, ...) should be stopped at least one week before the procedure.

Arrange recovery center if necessary

Sometimes it is desirable to stay in a recovery center or rehabilitation center for a short period after the procedure. This is especially true for people who live alone and who have little help at home. Recovery centers sometimes have long waiting lists. In that case, do not hesitate to submit your application by way of the secretariat for a recovery center after discharge, if necessary after the procedure.

Room choice

When you set a date for your surgery, you will also have the choice between a room alone or room of two.
